When a job offer is used to coerce a person into sexual exploitation.
What it means
- Sexual exploitation occurs when a person is coerced, deceived, or forced into sexual activity, often under the guise of a legitimate job offer.
- This can happen alongside, or instead of, the work that was originally promised.
Warning signs
- A job in hospitality, entertainment, domestic work, or caregiving turns out to involve unwanted sexual demands.
- You are pressured, threatened, or manipulated regarding sexual activity as a condition of keeping your job, pay, housing, or documents.
What to do
- This is not your fault, and you are not obligated to comply to 'prove' anything.
- Prioritize your immediate safety above all else.
- If it is safe to do so, reach out to a trusted contact and a qualified support organization as soon as possible.
